About Capital Area Food Bank

The Capital Area Food Bank partners with over 450 community organizations in DC, MD, and VA, as well as delivering food directly into hard to reach areas. Everyone, including children, families, and seniors are eligible to receive food assistance. However, if you would like to become a food assistance partner call the Capital Area Food Bank directly. Each of the 450 food assistance partners maintains their own schedule. Consult them directly to find out when to obtain food. If you would like to partner with Capital Area Food Bank, they are open from 8:30 to 2:00pm. Applicants must inquire directly with partners that are part of the direct food distribution programs. They include soup kitchens, food pantries, emergency shelters, daycare centers, senior programs, and group homes. You can help by participating in the Digital Food Drive found on the website. Every $1 donated through a digital food drive can provide food for 2.5 meals. Also, you can have your donation shipped to the Capital Area Food Bank from Amazon and You Give Goods. The Capital Area Food Bank was founded in 1980 through the efforts of the Interfaith Conference and the United Planning Organization as a temporary hunger relief organization. Today they distribute over 1.4 million meals a year.
