Company Overview
The Food Bank of Iowa (FBOI) solicits, receives, inventories and distributes donated food and grocery products to 437 partner agencies in 55 counties who directly serve needy individuals within their communities. In FYE 2010, the Food Bank of Iowa distributed 7,900,968 pounds of food.

Forty-two of these counties are served from our facility in Des Moines with the remaining 13 counties being served by our redistribution organization, the Food Bank of Southern Iowa.

The Food Bank of Iowa strives to meet the critical needs of a diverse population through its network of partner agencies, including food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, nonprofit day care facilities, residential care centers and child and senior programs.
Description
Programs:
Backpack Buddies - Many children in Iowa rely on resources such as the federal free or reduced-priced school meal program, during the school year. Backpack Buddies provides sacks of healthy, kid-friendly food to low-income children on weekends and school breaks, when they do not have access to the federal free and reduced price meal programs. In FYE 2010, the program served 1,260 low income children each week at 15 sites.

Help Us Stop Hunger (HUSH) - This program is a cooperative effort the Iowa DNR, Food Bank of Iowa, meat lockers and hunters to provide high-quality meat to individuals in need. In FYE 2010, the program harvested and distributed 300,000 pounds of ground venison statewide.
